Biography
I am currently completing my Master's degree in Art Education at Rice University, and I will be teaching Art in 2010-2011. I am incredibly excited to share what I've learned about both traditional and digital art with the next generation of upcoming artists. I believe that anyone can travel the road to becoming a great artist, but like the traditional Italian art schools from centuries past, I believe that if you have someone helping, guiding, and challenging you, you can get there much faster.
’I've always been an artist as far as I can tell. I've been drawing things since I was a kid and though I am constantly learning new techniques and methods, I feel like I haven't even cracked the surface of what I have left to learn. Every piece I make leads to new discoveries and methodologies that then lead to other discoveries. I really don't have a favorite medium, so I generally dabble in them all. Only recently I've become interested in digital painting, and a large portion of my recent works are digital for this reason.
My primary influences are music and literature, as well as film and poetry…basically all other art forms. Inspiration is everywhere. It's just a matter of deciding what idea to latch onto and pursue. Artists who have inspired my work are John Millais, John Howe, Greg Staples, Gary Larson, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Alan Lee, Jane Austen, Alex Ross, William Holman Hunt, J.R.R. Tolkien, Dan Scott, and my favorite, Gustav Klimt. I recently graduated from Rice University, with a degree in English Literature and a minor in Fine Art. I am a diehard Houston sports fan, be it Astros, Texans, or Rockets, and always will be. I hope that this biography is far from finished. Thanks for visiting my gallery and I appreciate any comments or questions you may have.
